LEJoG

date :   Fri Jun 1 20:34:24 2007
log :   Foggy and with a headwind, the last 38 miles were quite tough even though they weren’t all that hilly. Couldn’t get started this morning. My legs had finally had enough.
miles :   Day-37.2 Total-947.7

date :   Thu May 31 16:17:29 2007

log :   Great start on the West Loch Lomond cycle way. Started raining at Tarbet and still is. Rannoch Moor and Glen Coe very bleak and wet. Finally found a tail wind from Ballachulish to Fort William.
miles :   Day-82.08 total-760.2

date :   Mon May 28 21:55:32 2007
log :   Today would have been a good day had it not been for the broken spoke 20 miles in, the 90 miles into a head wind, and the puncture 10 miles from the end. Oh, and Glasgow. However, thanks to neil at Walker’s Cycles, we look forward to Glencoe tomorrow.
miles :   Day-96.56 total-678.2

date :   Sun May 27 21:12:48 2007
log :   Mixed day. Good in that I left England behind and that Laura (daughter, age 10) rode into Scotland too. Not so good because the last bit of England soaked me with torrential rain and then Scotland dried me with a huge headwind
miles :   Day-80.5 total-581.6

date :   Fri May 25 21:37:06 2007
log :   Half Way! High point has to be climbing Shap Fell. 1400Ft. It took 1 1/2 hours. Then it took 15 minutes to decend the other side.
miles :   Day-68.83 total-501.1

date :   Thu May 24 21:53:02 2007
log :   Was most bothered about today as it went through Warrington, Wigan, and Preston. However it was the best day so far. 3 out of 6 hours spent in city traffic. Low point would have to be setting off this morning after too much beer and whisky last night.
miles :   Day-75.3 total-432.3

date :   Wed May 23 21:02:53 2007
log :   My fingers don’t ache. Everything else however does. Best day so far though. Highlight – first cornish pasty of the trip. Low – worst road surface between Wem and Whitchurch
miles :   Day-93.9 total-356.9

date :   Tue May 22 21:05:14 2007
log :   Made an early start (7.45) and was eating bacon rolls by 9.00. Uneventful ride through 4 counties and 2 countries. Camp site would be very basic if it had a few more facilities.
miles :   Day-67.4 total-263

date :   Mon May 21 20:19:18 2007
log :   Climbed dartmoor. Decended dartmoor. Excellent decent – 5 minutes at 35 mph. Exeter to taunton lousy road surface, idiot in a big tractor forced me into the kerb just before taunton. Flat from taunton to glastonbury, which was a nice change.
miles :   Day-97.02 total-195.6

date :   Sun May 20 21:31:42 2007
log :   Got to sennen last night and checked out land’s end. Left there this morning at 9.15. Cornwall is very hilly. More ups than downs. Next time i’ll split it over 2 days. Over dartmoor tomorrow to somerset. Maybe i’ll do better finding somerset cider than i did finding pasties today.
miles :   Day-98.6, total-98.6

date :   Sun May 13 18:42:53 2007
log :   This weekend I’ve done several shorter rides. This Sunday it was hammering down with rain the whole time. This I fear has given me some idea of what is to come Next Week. Talking of which, the next update should come from Dartmoor (from where they have spent the weekend airlifting 10 torers).
miles :   - -

date :   Tue May 1 14:45:12 2007
log :   Went out to Glastonbury. Got scared coming down from Shipham into Cheddar when I realised the bike was going over 40mph. Came home via Wells and the Mendip Hills. Got scared coming down Burrington Coombe when I realised the bike was… – Burrington Coombe is quite steep and quite winding. Followed this 60 mile ride with a short quick ride the following morning and found that my legs still worked as well as can be hoped.
miles :   Total this Week = 80

date :   Thu Apr 19 19:16:13 2007
log :   Went up to Simmonds Yat last weekend. This covered part of Day 3 from about Bristol onwards. I was pleased with the distance and the average speed, which was about 13mph. Ive also done a couple of shorter rides on Monday and Wednesday. The average speed has been increasing steadily now, Monday being 14mph and Wednesday being 15.5. Commitments for the rest of this week suggest that I won’t be able to get out much before Sunday so this weeks total is 73
